Summary:
  • Under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations, the Surplus Lines Manager is responsible for providing oversight of the Filing Services Department, including project execution, managing and developing Team Leads, collaboration with other department managers & senior leadership, and ongoing knowledge of surplus lines tax laws, filing, and reporting requirements. Success in this role requires a mixture of creative thinking, attention to detail, a focus on efficiency, and the ability to lead and motivate a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Filing Services Team Leads, and support the Team Leads in their supervision of the Filing Admins and Sr. Filing Admins. Evaluate staffing and capacity, and assess hiring needs.
  • Assist Team Leads in monitoring reports and individual filings for Filing Services for quality, timeliness, and accuracy
  • Monitor the filing team’s progress and productivity and work with Team Leads to optimize both among the filing team. 
  • Ensure Timely and accurate completion of state regulatory surplus lines tax filings
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of training and reference materials, including developing and refining SOPs
  • Provide excellent customer service by building and maintaining positive relationships with states and clients
  • Ability to communicate and build positive working relationships with all levels within the organization effectively and professionally
  • Coordinate and execute project plan activities, including setting up meetings, tasks, and documents, organizing project information, and following up on action items and assignments.
  • Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness in decision-making and independent problem-solving
  • Ensure the team is meeting expectations by evaluating performance and working individually with employees to create a positive work environment and opportunities for growth
  • Demonstrate creative thinking outside the box to improve efficiency
  • Develop and maintain analytics reports for monitoring of productivity
  • Required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, accounting or a related field
  • Additional insurance/compliance certification completion preferred
  • 5+ years of surplus lines compliance, filing/tax reporting experience
  • 2+ Prior supervisory experience required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of surplus lines regulations, statutes, and laws
